Summer in Sweden

August in Scandinavia
The seed that grew into this retreat experience started with a longing in my heart to show people the beauty of the Swedish summer. There is nothing quite like it! Long sunny days, nights that never get fully dark, forests beckoning you to take your shoes off and feel the moss beneath your feet… Summers here are quite something! Paired with the power of intentional movement practices, time spent in nature, inner contemplation, vulnerable shares, and a circle of people here for the same reason? I think we are in for a very special experience.
A Hidden Gem
I actually never thought I’d be able to find a retreat center so close to our farm (to be honest, I was half-expecting to have to build one myself!) but suddenly, a hidden gem appeared. Kämpasten is located right on the shores of Lake Mälaren, just outside of Sigtuna, Sweden’s oldest town. As it’s just 20 minutes from the airport, 5 minutes from Sigtuna, and 10 minutes from Ala Farms, this hotel is in a perfect spot. The space is designed to immerse you in nature – every room is a single room, there are no TV’s, and the hotel grounds are built around bringing people together.
Farm & Forest
During our retreat week we will start each day with yoga and movement in a state-of-the-art shala that boasts a panoramic view over the lake. From there we have breakfast together, space to explore, and workshops and activities to connect us to the nature of the Swedish forests and countryside. Aside from yoga, our activities include herbal tea making, sauna sessions, and an evening spent at Ala Farms. It’s going to be a very special retreat – I can’t wait to show you my home turf!

Day 1
Thursday
You’ll arrive at Arlanda Airport where we recommend you grab a taxi to Kämpasten, just a short drive away. Check in at the hotel is from 3pm onward – we recommend you arrive as close to 3 as you can so you have some time to unwind before our first practice! Grab a cup of herbal tea foraged from these very woods; take a walk along the lake, and settle in.
In the late afternoon We meet in the shala for our welcome circle where we ground together, get to know one another, and set our intentions for the retreat.
Afterwards We gather in the restaurant for a nordic-inspired community dinner. The sauna is open all night, too!ur hands. Here we ground together and set our intentions for the retreat.

Day 2
Friday
Start your day with coffee or tea and a snack before we gather for a heart-centered yoga practice in the Shala. Mats and props are provided by us, but make sure you bring your journal and pen (and an open mind! We never know where practice will take us…).
Afterwards we eat breakfast altogether; in our community space or on the balcony overlooking the beautiful nature of Mälardalen. The group will split in two for some fun herbal workshops in the middle of the day (details to come!) and lunch is served at the hotel restaurant. We recommend a walk in the woods or a dip in the lake (or why not both?) before we meet again for afternoon practice.
Ala Farms: After a shower and a change we board our country bus for a short drive over to Ala Farms for an evening of farm fun! Have a glass of wine on the terrace overlooking the fields, explore the land, meet the animals, or ask Dennis to make you his fanciest coffee (try the two-course serving if you’re a fellow espresso nerd!). We will enjoy a farm-fresh dinner on the terrace, and see where the night takes us…

Day 3
Saturday
Once again we start our day with a warm drink and something small to eat before moving our bodies – if you’re an early riser, how about a sunrise sauna session before yoga practice? By now the shala will feel like a second home and your body will feel sore in the best of ways.
Herbal activity and picnic: Our herbal activity today is followed by a picnic lunch on the lake shore catered by Ala Farms with your choice of sandwich and traditional Swedish fika. Our afternoon practice is a very sacred one – our hearts will already be on our sleeves by now so get ready to and feel, expand, and soften.
Dinner is at Kämpasten, followed by a bonfire and a gathering in the garden. Since the sunset is many hours long in Sweden at this time of year, we will spend our last evening together outside, sharing around the fire – or dancing, if the mood strikes! – solidifying the bonds that have blossomed between us throughout the week as the sky slowly darkens.

Day 4
Sunday
Morning coffee, a snack, and yoga. Of course! Our last morning together ends with a sweaty, celebratory practice. We’ll save our goodbyes for breakfast, knowing that even though this will feel like the end the friendships formed throughout the week are just beginning.
Check out is at 10, and we recommend a visit to Sigtuna after that if you have some space before your travels! As Sweden’s oldest town, Sigtuna is picturesque and filled to the brim with history. Stockholm is of course also well worth a visit, and is only 45 minutes away. If you’d prefer to remain in nature, there are many nature reserves to explore in the area.
